Cameco Caring Community Grants
Cameco Caring Community Grants contribute to a healthy community and enhanced quality of life in Saskatoon. This unique partnership involving Saskatoon Community Foundation and the Cameco Corporation focuses on helping build sustainable solutions for the community.
Cameco Caring Community Grants have three objectives:
- to focus on building a healthy community for tomorrow by offering opportunities today;
- to focus on building community strengths and assets by mobilizing civic participation and resources; and
- to support initiatives that promote self-reliance, develop leadership skills, and emphasize prevention.
When Cameco Caring Community was launched in 1999, Saskatoon Community Foundation became the first community foundation in Canada to develop such a corporate partnership for awarding grants. Cameco, a world leader in uranium production, considers these key measures of its success: a safe, healthy and rewarding workplace, a clean environment, and supportive communities wherever it operates. This fits the foundation’s focus on making Saskatoon the best community in which to live by enhancing its quality of life through building endowments, strategic grant making, and community leadership.
Cameco Caring Community Grants have empowered teen parents, women with cancer, and youth with physical disabilities; exposed youngsters to theatre; brought children and seniors together; and increased the community's understanding of mental illness. These grants ranged from $1,000 to $4,500. Programs are eligible for a maximum of three years of funding, then are ineligible for two years.
