Saskatoon Community Foundation Grants $57,000 from McGillivray Fund

Charities around Saskatchewan will receive grants totaling $57,000 from the Verna and Lionel McGillivray Fund for Children in Saskatchewan

Saskatoon Community Foundation has responded to applications to the McGillivray Fund by approving $51,000 worth of grants so far this year. Final grants worth an additional $6000.00 will be approved in the Christmas season.

Grants awarded include:

  • $14, 250.00 to Camp Easter Seal, Saskatchewan Abilities Council
  • $8,000.00 to Care and Share Holiday Lunch Program for Saskatoon community schools
  • $1,500.00 to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Humboldt
  • $2,500.00 to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Lloydminster
  • $2,000.00 to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Saskatoon
  • $2,000.00 to Buddies People Helping Each Other of Kelvington
  • $2,000.00 to Canadian Red Cross Weyburn, Estevan
  • $2,000.00 to Family Healing Circle Lodge, Saskatoon
  • $2,000.00 to Grand Coteau Heritage and Cultural Centre of Shaunavon
  • $3,000.00 to Grosvenor Park United Church for their Kids of Note Choir in Saskatoon
  • $3,000.00 to Millie’s Early Learning Centre in Saskatoon for the Sunbeams program
  • $3,000.00 to the North East Childhood Development program in Tisdale
  • $2,000.00 to Partners for Rural Family Support in Humboldt
  • $1,500.00 to St. Mary’s School Plus in Yorkton
  • $3,000.00 to Saskatoon Open Door Society

The Fund, established by Verna and Lionel McGillivray in 2002 to benefit children in Saskatchewan, is worth more than $1 million and had $57,000 in income to grant this year. Applications received totaled almost $80,000. The committee’s recommendations were approved by the Board of Directors of the Saskatoon Community Foundation.

Saskatoon Community Foundation is one of 158 community foundations across Canada. Community foundations build and manage permanent endowments to support local charities. Saskatoon Community Foundation’s endowment reached $17 million in 2007. Established in 1970, the Foundation has since granted over $6 million to charity. In 2006 grants totaled $732,000.
