Saskatoon Community Foundation Provides $26,000 for Restorative Action Program in Saskatoon
A $26,000 grant to Rotary Club of Saskatoon will help expand the scope of the Restorative Action Program (RAP) from its current two schools.
Rotary Club of Saskatoon will use the $26,000 to begin a research and development phase for the Restorative Action Program. Currently, Rotary Club leads the RAP program at two Saskatoon high schools: Mount Royal and Bedford, teaching young people effective means of resolving conflict. With a number of additional partners supporting the program, including the Catholic and Public School Divisions and the Mayor’s Task Force on Safe Neighborhoods, the program is poised to expand.
Rotary Club plans to examine successful delivery systems in other communities and to involve key stakeholders in selecting and implementing a sustainable model for the city.
“We are about strategic grant making,” said Trevor Forrest, Executive Director of Saskatoon Community Foundation. “This grant will build capacity in the RAP program, in the Rotary Club leadership and the entire community will benefit as a result.”
“The RAP program has had tremendous success and we want to ensure it remains successful as it expands. With the support of the Saskatoon Community Foundation, we’ll be able to research the best practices in North America and deliver a model that works for Saskatoon.”
Research for the project will be completed in spring 2008, with a final report delivered to the community before summer.
