Cameco Riverfront Campaign announces partnership with Saskatoon Community Foundation
Dr. Donald Somers, Chair of the Cameco Riverfront Campaign for Meewasin, today announced a partnership with the Saskatoon Community Foundation to designate the plaza next to the Riverfront Pavilion the “Saskatoon Community Foundation Plaza” in recognition of their $50,000 donation to the Cameco Riverfront Campaign. The Plaza is a meeting place at the west end of the Riverfront Phase 1 and will serve as an important landmark on the site.
Made up of concrete paving stones, the Saskatoon Community Foundation Plaza will also be the main location for sponsor and donor recognition. The public can support the Cameco Riverfront Campaign by purchasing granite bricks for $250 – limited to 250 bricks. These bricks will replace the paving stones in the floor of the plaza. These bricks can be engraved with the donor’s name or the name of a loved one as permanent recognition of their support of the most exciting public river projects in our city’s history.
“The Foundation’s vision -- making Saskatoon the best community in which to live – is epitomized by the new Riverfront at River Landing development,” said Saskatoon Community Foundation Past Chair, Jim Wasilenko. “Changing the site from a landfill into a destination location for residents and visitors aligns with our mission of contributing to the quality of life in Saskatoon,” he added.
“Meewasin extends sincere thanks to the Board and staff of the Saskatoon Community Foundation for their leadership in supporting the Riverfront,” said Don Somers, Chair of the Campaign. “We encourage everyone to consider putting a limited edition ‘Saskatoon Community Foundation Plaza’ brick on your Christmas list this year.”
The Saskatoon Community Foundation’s donation kicks off the program and the first public brick has been purchased by local businesswoman and Meewasin supporter Karen Turner.
Designed to bring people and our community together, the Riverfront at River Landing will integrate an urban plaza with an interpreted visitor experience unlike anywhere in the world. A combination of a public domain and business interest, the area will be tasteful, understated and timeless.
